Artist of the Year Award 2026

올해의 작가상 2026

Since 2012, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the SBS Culture Foundation have jointly curated this flagship program supporting contemporary Korean artists. Four artists are selected annually to receive production and exhibition support for new works, with ongoing backing for their international endeavors. Since 2023, program enhancements have strengthened creative support and now present recent commissions alongside significant prior works, offering a more multifaceted view of each artist's practice. The 2026 edition deepens storytelling around the thematic concerns and artistic visions of major figures in Korean art, establishing connections with international artistic discourse.

🎟️ How to book — Official museum site

  1. 1

Check opening hours on the museum's official site

Many Korean national museums close one day a week, often Mondays — worth checking before you make the trip.

  2. 2

Book a time slot for the most popular exhibitions

The most anticipated temporary exhibitions sometimes limit access to online time-slot reservations, especially on weekends.

  3. 3

    Permanent collections are often free

Only certain special or temporary exhibitions charge admission — the permanent collection itself is free to enter at most national museums.

  4. 4

Book ahead for groups or guided tours

School groups and guided tours generally need to be booked directly with the museum ahead of the visit.
