Bang Hye-ja — Sowing Light from My Heart Everywhere

방혜자 - 천지에 마음의 빛 뿌리며 간다

This exhibition honors Bang Hye-ja (1937-2022), a major artist who established a singular artistic universe by drawing from Franco-Korean cultural sources. Presented in 2026 to commemorate the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the exhibition brings together the principal works of this pioneering woman painter of Korean abstract art. Alongside collections from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, works from France are shown in Korea for the first time. The exhibition explores the inspiration that « light » has been for this artist throughout her life, her worldviews, and her methods of expression. Her varied pictorial experiments and creative intuitions unfold here in all their richness.

  1. 1

Check opening hours on the museum's official site

Many Korean national museums close one day a week, often Mondays — worth checking before you make the trip.

  2. 2

Book a time slot for the most popular exhibitions

The most anticipated temporary exhibitions sometimes limit access to online time-slot reservations, especially on weekends.

  3. 3

    Permanent collections are often free

Only certain special or temporary exhibitions charge admission — the permanent collection itself is free to enter at most national museums.

  4. 4
