This exhibition examines the conceptual transition in contemporary Korean art, from visual object status to the dimensions of language and thought. Since the 1960s, Korean conceptual art has evolved through language and logic experiments in the 1970s-1980s, then toward reflection on reality combining conceptual thought with materiality in the 1990s. The exhibition exploits the title's ambiguity to resist fixing conceptual art in a single category, instead opening the multiple layers of meaning and interpretation revealed by the works. Through four sections—language, logic and act; object and language; map and measure; agents of the sign—it invites a rereading of conceptual art as a complex set of attempts to rethink the human and the world in relation to Korean historical contexts.
