The National Gyeongju Museum marks the 50th anniversary of excavations at the Hwangnyongsa site with an exhibition devoted to the shrine ornaments of its famous wooden pagoda. The foundation stone that once housed these reliquaries remains at the location where the pagoda stood. The exhibition brings together approximately 350 pieces discovered in the relic chamber as well as objects excavated beneath the foundation stone in 1976. Special attention is given to the gilt-bronze relic box and its lid, brought to light after meticulous conservation and restoration. Recent scientific research enriches understanding of these sacred ensembles, offering new perspective on Hwangnyongsa's spiritual universe, the supreme symbol of Buddhism in Silla.
