Artist of the Year Award 2026

올해의 작가상 2026

Since 2012, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea and the SBS Cultural Foundation have jointly hosted this flagship contemporary art artist support program and award system. Each year, four artists are selected to receive support for producing and exhibiting new works, with ongoing international exposure and promotion. From 2023, the program strengthened artist production support by presenting not only new commissions but also major earlier works, providing a more multidimensional view of each artist's practice. The 2026 edition deepens storytelling around the artists' thematic consciousness and artistic vision, seeking to examine major figures in the Korean art world from a macroscopic perspective and establish connections with international art discourse.

🎟️ How to bookOfficial museum site

  1. 1

Check opening hours on the museum's official site

Many Korean national museums close one day a week, often Mondays — worth checking before you make the trip.

  2. 2

Book a time slot for the most popular exhibitions

The most anticipated temporary exhibitions sometimes limit access to online time-slot reservations, especially on weekends.

  3. 3

    Permanent collections are often free

Only certain special or temporary exhibitions charge admission — the permanent collection itself is free to enter at most national museums.

  4. 4

Book ahead for groups or guided tours

School groups and guided tours generally need to be booked directly with the museum ahead of the visit.
