About
The National Museum of Gimhae is specialized as an archaeology-focused expert museum. On July 29, 1998, the National Museum of Gimhae opened to comprehensively gather the cultural heritage of Gaya, one of ancient kingdoms. Located at the foot of Gujibong Mountain in Gimhae, where the founding legend of Gaya is enshrined, the National Museum of Gimhae exhibits Gaya's cultural properties in an integrated manner, and also displays the prehistoric cultural landscape of the Busan and Gyeongnam regions and the cultural heritage of Byeonhan, which formed the growth foundation for Gaya. The entire building is clad in black brick, symbolically expressing Gaya, the Kingdom of Iron, through the imagery of iron ore and charcoal. It is divided into Exhibition Hall I and Exhibition Hall II. Exhibition Hall I contains a replica of the Geomdan village site in Ulsan and a model of Tomb No. 1 at Dahoeri in Changwon, and displays artifacts representing the prehistoric period and Byeonhan, which form the foundation of Gaya culture, as well as artifacts of Keumgwan Gaya. Exhibition Hall II displays various relics showing the uniqueness and changes of Gaya culture formed by region.
