Drawing Our Garments: Portraits in Traditional Dress, Gift of Kwon O-chang

우리 옷을 그리다: 권오창 화백 기증 복식인물화

The National Museum of Daegu presents its inaugural special exhibition of 2026: portraits in traditional dress by the master painter Kwon O-chang (Donggang), who devoted over fifty years to bringing historical figures and traditional Korean garments to life on canvas. His paintings restore vibrant color to figures known only from black-and-white photographs and reconstruct complete costumes from scattered historical records. This comprehensive project encompasses 155 artworks across 168 pieces, created through meticulous research and artistic insight, generously donated to the museum. The exhibition traces the stories of garments and people returning to us across time, celebrating the enduring beauty of Korean dress and culture.

🎟️ How to book — Official museum site

  1. 1

Check opening hours on the museum's official site

Many Korean national museums close one day a week, often Mondays — worth checking before you make the trip.

  2. 2

Book a time slot for the most popular exhibitions

The most anticipated temporary exhibitions sometimes limit access to online time-slot reservations, especially on weekends.

  3. 3

    Permanent collections are often free

Only certain special or temporary exhibitions charge admission — the permanent collection itself is free to enter at most national museums.

  4. 4
