Heungbu Festival

흥부제

The 34th Heungbu Festival (October 9-11) celebrates the classic Korean tale of Heungbujeon with themes of brotherly love, gratitude, sharing and good fortune. Set in Gwangharu Park, the Heungbu-themed marketplace recreates his childhood home, while stalls offer Jirisan agricultural products and local food. The festival features traditional occupational experiences, classical science exhibitions, battle reenactments of Namwon Fortress, changgeuk (Korean opera) performances, traditional folk music competitions and ancestral wedding ceremonies. Attractions include a massive golden gourd-breaking experience and varied programs linking the heritage park with the historic old city center.
