Jeongeupsa Cultural Festival

정읍사문화제

Honoring the Jeongeupsa—the sole surviving Baekje folk song—this festival celebrates the legendary tale of a woman's prayer to the moon for her merchant husband's safe return. Documented in the Joseon-era musical compilation « Akhakgwebeom, » the song embodies centuries of cultural heritage. The festival features two central rituals: the water-drawing ceremony and the women's commemoration ritual. Visitors can don authentic Baekje costumes for photos, enjoy traditional music performances, participate in craft experiences, and witness diverse entertainment including folk dance, rope walking, musical theater, and classical Korean music performances. A grand fireworks display caps the celebration of Jeongeup's legendary culture and community pride.
