Kim Sat-gat Cultural Festival

김삿갓 문화제

This annual autumn festival honors Kim Sat-gat (1807-1863), a wandering poet of the late Joseon Dynasty known for his sharp satire and humorous critiques of social hypocrisy. Since 1998, the festival is held in Yeongwol County around the poet's tomb and residence, featuring commemorative rituals, nationwide classical poetry and calligraphy competitions, the Kim Sat-gat Literary Prize, academic symposiums, and performances, exhibitions, and workshops celebrating his vagrant life, wit, and free spirit. A literary marketplace and various activities showcase the enduring cultural legacy and critical thinking embodied in his work.
