Gwacheon Museum's 40th Anniversary Project: Imaginaries of Light
과천관 40주년 프로젝트: 빛의 상상들
Marking its 40th anniversary, the Gwacheon branch of the National Museum of Contemporary Art re-examines its role and modes of experience as a place where nature, architecture, and art coexist. Exhibitions, education, design, and public programs interconnect to reflect on four decades of history and explore future possibilities. An installation project titled 'Staying Places' invites visitors to linger among the sculpture park's works and form new relationships with them. 'Vistas' presents works by Kim A-young and Philippe Parreno throughout the museum's shared spaces, exploring light as a central theme. 'Afterimages' deepens the investigation of light and perception through works by James Turrell and Ivan Navarro. A diverse array of exhibitions and programs—including a special film series 'Artists of the Sculpture Park,' a participatory archive 'Scenes,' and children's museum activities—traverse nature and art, space and perception, reinvigorating the museum's experimental and public character while inviting collective imagination of Gwacheon's future.
