This piece by master director Han Tae-suk, which he wrote and staged, made waves at its 2003 debut earning numerous awards. The Xi'an Express follows Sang-gon, a Korean man with a Chinese mother, on an introspective journey through Emperor Qin's desire for immortality and his own unfulfilled dreams. As he contemplates the buried treasures awaiting in Xi'an, Sang-gon discovers his own story against the vastness of ancient history. This production reimagines how time, memory, and space can extend infinitely in theater.
