The National Museum of Buyeo, located at the foot of Geumseongsan Mountain in the southeastern part of Buyeo city, was founded in 1929 when the organization "Buyeo Gogjeok Bojon-hoe" was established to collect cultural artifacts and relics of Baekje. The origins of the National Museum of Buyeo trace back to the exhibition of these collections in a guest hall (gaeksa) of a Joseon Dynasty administrative building located south of Busosan Mountain. From 1939 onwards, it was renamed "Museum of the Joseon General Governorate - Buyeo Branch," officially acquiring the name "Museum of Buyeo." In 1970, a new museum building was constructed at the southern foot of Busosan Mountain, primarily exhibiting Baekje cultural artifacts scattered throughout the Buyeo region and beyond. On August 6, 1993, the museum relocated to its current location and reopened with a new appearance. The National Museum of Buyeo covers an area of 61,429 m², featuring four permanent exhibition halls and an outdoor artifact display area, showcasing approximately 1,000 artifacts. In designing the building, traditional Korean architectural styles were incorporated, with an octagonal courtyard (中庭) positioned at the center, surrounded by permanent exhibition halls: the Prehistoric Hall, the Historical Hall, the Buddhist Art Hall, and the Outdoor Exhibition Hall. The Prehistoric Hall displays artifacts from the Bronze Age and Iron Age discovered in the Buyeo region and throughout South Chungcheong Province. The Historical Hall presents artifacts from Baekje during the Sabi period and relics from the Three Kingdoms period. The Buddhist Art Hall showcases Buddhist art and crafts from Baekje's Sabi period, while the Outdoor Exhibition Hall displays sculptures including Buddha statues and stone pagodas.
