About
The National Museum of Chuncheon is a comprehensive cultural space where you can encounter the history and culture of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province in one place. Since its opening in 2002, it has conducted research, preserved, and displayed the cultural heritage of Gangwon region, while widely promoting the value and identity of local culture. It operates various spaces including permanent exhibitions showcasing the historical flow of Gangwon from the Prehistoric Age to the modern era, a branded zone, special exhibition galleries, and an outdoor garden, and it is the representative national museum of Gangwon housing approximately 120,000 artifacts. In the exhibition halls, you can encounter Gangwon's appearance across different periods, from Paleolithic relics to Goryeo Buddhist culture and Joseon dynasty cultural heritage. In particular, branded exhibitions featuring the Five Hundred Arhats from the ruins of Changryeongsa Temple in Yeongwol, Buddhist art of Gangwon, and Mount Kumgang and the Eight Scenic Spots of Gwandong convey the distinctive cultural characteristics and beauty unique to Gangwon with greater depth. Furthermore, an ultra-large immersive video display measuring 28 meters wide vividly captures the Eight Scenic Spots of Gwandong and the Five Hundred Arhats, providing an immersive viewing experience and adding to the enjoyment of your visit. The modern architectural beauty harmonizing with nature also catches the eye. The main building won the "25th Korea Architects Association Award" in 2003, and comfortable rest and experience spaces such as an outdoor garden and children's museum are also provided, making it pleasant for family visitors to enjoy. The National Museum of Chuncheon, where history, culture, nature, and experience come together, is a cultural travel destination that anyone of any age can enjoy.
